New Zealand, with its stunning landscapes and adventurous spirit, offers more than just typical hotel stays. For travelers seeking unique and immersive experiences, a range of alternative accommodation options awaits. From luxurious glamping retreats to eco-friendly cabins, here's a glimpse into some of the most captivating choices:
New Zealand: A Tapestry of Breathtaking Views
From the rugged North Island to the serene South, and across every corner of this stunning country, New Zealand boasts breathtaking vistas that will leave you speechless. Whether you dream of waking to the sunrise over the East Coast or watching the fiery sunset paint the Western sky, gazing upon majestic mountains or meandering rivers, or simply enjoying the tranquility of rolling farmland, there's a view for every soul.
Accommodation options are as diverse as the scenery itself, ranging from futuristic glass domes to cozy canvas-clad canopies. But one thing unites them all: secluded privacy, unique character, and views that will truly enchant.
New Zealand offers a landscape so beautiful that it will leave you in awe, with something for everyone, from the rising sun on the East Coast to the pastoral views of farmland. What most of these properties have in common is their secluded privacy, bespoke character, and captivating vistas.
At First Light Travel, we embrace the challenge of crafting unique experiences, starting with breathtaking scenic locations as the foundation for an unforgettable vacation. Step away from your busy travel schedule, take a moment to unplug, and truly relax.
Pre-Pitched Glamping Bliss
Arrive to find your luxurious 5-meter bell tent already set up, perfectly appointed for a classic Kiwi camping experience. Expect plush foam beds, crisp linen, warm lighting, and stylish decor that creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. This is pretty much only an option within a couple of hours of Auckland - as transport is addtional to hireage costs. A 3 night minimum hire period is advisable.
Unless you have a private property to host your camping set up - you can also enjoy the kiwi camping experience at one of the local New Zealand Campgrounds (these all have shared kitchen/bbq and bathroom facilities - all you will need to bring will be your personal cooking equipment and food).
Recentley I took the opportunity to have a Camplight canvas beauty pitched at Opoutere Coastal Camping near Whangamata. We couldnt have been more happy on arrival to find the tent set up and ready to go!
Geodesic Domes
Valley Views Glamping provides 'glamorous camping' in 6 luxury geodesic domes; the first of its kind in NZ, with an off-grid Eco Lodge for kitchen and dining, situated on a beef cattle farm with expansive views of the beautiful Waitaki Valley.
Bathroom and kitchen facilities are communal - but with plenty of privacy and only 6 domes in total these facilities are very good. There are 2 sets of double bath tubs to lie back and enjoy the southern skies at night. The well equipped kitchen provides Large 12-seater table plus 2 outdoor dining tables.
The domes sleep a maximum of 3 people and cost anywhere from $350 per night, with the price including breakfast.
- Gas oven
- Gas stove top
- Large fridge and freezer
- Chilli bins for extra cool storage of drinks
- All pots and pans, plates, bowls, cutlery, and utensils needed for cooking

Canopy Camping
Canopy Camping is a network of special places from around New Zealand. These escapes range from super luxurious - to simple and rustic and you won’t find them anywhere else. In every case, they have a little bit of magic, a certain charm and an unsurpassed connection to nature, so you can slow down, reconnect and go where you feel most alive.
Under the Canopy Camping umbrella there are 180+ (and growing!) locations range from Otago to the Far North. The conditions will usually state a 2 night minimum stay - and some allow pets to stay as well - even including your horse!
