Matakana to Taupo: Lakes and mountains
Travel onwards to Taupo via the heart of the Central North Island, heading south through the lush farmland of the Waikato and King Country regions.
Pause in Rotorua to stretch your legs and marvel New Zealand's geothermal wonders. The bubbling mud pools, volcanic craters, gushing geysers and candy-coloured rock terraces must be seen to be believed.
Another great stop along the way is Huka Falls. Watch in wonder as a hundred-metre-wide river squeezes through a fifteen metre canyon. The explosive power of the resulting waterfall is an incredible sight.

You will sail to Mine Bay to see 10-metre-high Maori rock carvings only accessible by boat. Created by local artists they are thought to be the largest of their kind in the world.
